There are many things to LOVE about Friday; the end of the work week, the promise of sleeping in Saturday morning, the lower amount of phone calls coming in...But the BEST thing about Friday is Port-a-Pit Chicken on the break truck. Every Friday when I hear the beeping of the break truck backing in to the shop below my office, my taste buds jump for joy at the anticipation of the Nirvana that awaits just down the stairs. My heart leaps as I open the glass doors at the back of the truck and inhale the intoxicating aroma of barbecue wafting from the compartment. I pay my 4.25 and grab a plastic fork. When I enter the office it is immediatly filled with the scent of my prize. I grab for some paper towel in the bottom drawer of my desk knowing that it will be needed badly in the next few minutes. I poke the plastic that is wrapped around the tray and peel it back. The full force of the wonderful smell blasts it way out of the package and I sit in amazement that anything could smell this good. (I had thought about getting Sherry some of the secret sauce that this is baked in instead of perfume at one point, but I doubted that she would actually wear it.) Now the best part...I eat it...slowly. As I pick the tender meat off with the fork the only thought running through my mind is, "white meat or dark for the next bite?" All too soon I am left with a pile of chicken bones that have been picked clean and the feeling of a full tummy. I LOVE Fridays!!!
