The post turtle


A doctor struck up a conversation with a hard-working 75 year old rancher while suturing a mean cut on the old man's leathery hand. Eventually the topic got around to Obama.

The old rancher said, "Well, you know, Obama is a 'post turtle.'"

Unfamiliar with the term, the doctor asked him what he meant.

The old rancher replied, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle.'"

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued: "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, and he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just wonder what kind of complete moron put him up there to begin with."

I've wondered the same thing...

Who would have thought...


I wasn't going to blog about this, but it would probably be a bit weird if I didn't.

Who would have thought...
That Notre Dame would invite a pro-abortion president to speak at commencement.
That they would also honor him with an honorary law degree.
That there would be pro-life protesters picketing ND.
That there would be pro-life protesters ARRESTED at ND.
That there would even be a need to do so.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. Ever since Jenkins has taken the reigns, Notre Dame has begun to look less and less Catholic and more like any state school you can think of. Booze and drugs free-flowing all over the campus. Productions such as the "Vagina Monologues" being encouraged and allowed. Gays and Lesbians having their own on-campus organization that is blessed by the school. Liberal professors who are allowed to spew their garbage all over the classrooms without fear of reprisal by the board or chancellor.

I read in the paper those that were defending ND's downward slide by saying that there should always be a platform for the free-flowing ideas in every university, including this one. I would agree...to a point. And that point is when the free flow clashes with the mission of the school, which should be (and used to be) to educate these kids in the teachings of the Faith and make sure that when they graduate, they are not only smarter, but closer to God.

Sadly, ND is following in the paths of Harvard, Yale, Duke, and countless others who started as doctrinally sound universities and fell by the wayside in favor of being politically correct.

Do I think that Randall Terry and company are going a bit too far? Maybe a little, but mostly no. If you were standing and watching someone take a toddler by the hand and lead her into a building where you knew she would be killed, what would you do to stop it? Would you just stand and do nothing and hope the adult changes their mind? Would you stand there and pray? Would you run up and beg and plead with the adult who was leading the child to stop? Would you try to physically wrest the child away? Would you defend the child with deadly force?

These are all options, obviously some are better than others, but all are options none the less. I think that every person must decide where they stand in the continuum. These folks have decided, and I support them.

Shame, shame on old Notre Dame.
